The most important creatures at a live horse racing track are, you guessed it, the horses. These beautiful creatures have hearts as large as their talent. Unfortunately, some people commit unthinkable cruelty against them every day. March 1st is National Horse Protection Day. If you have a passion for live horse racing and a respect for the animals who bring the track to life, participate in this national equestrian day.
National Horse Protection Day
Why this national day of the horse exists
Jockeys treat their horses like the majestic beings they are. However, not all people share this same view. Horse lovers created National Horse Protection Day to bring light to the atrocities committed against our most beloved animals.
Creators of this day strive to shed light on some of these tragedies:
- Horses are enjoyed as a meal in some countries
- Everyday abuse horses are subject to
- Starvation and lack of care for pet horses
Spread awareness about horse protection
Horse lovers can participate in this national day of the horse by spreading awareness to people in their community. Believe it or not, not everyone in the country has access to horses or live horse racing to see these beauties up close and personal.
The Animal Miracle Network Foundation asks that anyone with the means buy a horse and treat them right. However, if you don’t have the funds or necessary space you can do the following:
- Donate to a reputable horse sanctuary
- Write a letter to your local BLM officials
- Take the family to a local riding stable and educate them
- Post about National Horse Protection Day on social media
