Jimmy McNerney, 44, became just the 12th voice to fill the airwaves bellowing from high atop the Ellis Park grandstand in 2015. In addition to his track announcer duties, he is also the Ellis Park morning line odds-maker and the on-air race analyst. While he was born in Kentucky, he grew up right here in nearby Evansville. He is a third generation horseman, as his family is deep rooted in the horse racing business. McNerney has held about every job on the racetrack. He has been a groom, gallop boy, racing official, and a jockey agent, just to name a few. His knowledge and passion for the sport run very deep. His main objective is to make the experience for the race fan an enjoyable and profitable one. He is highly regarded as an expert handicapper and enjoys teaching the novice handicappers his art to picking winners. In addition, McNerney has frequently hosted handicapping seminars to help promote and educate the sport of kings to horse players. He currently is the also the race caller and television analyst at Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky. He also enjoys emceeing charity events and can also be found on the auction block calling bids at various auction houses throughout the country. The father of three daughters, spends his spare time rooting on his beloved Cincinnati Bengals. He has previously called races at numerous race tracks across the country including Beulah Park, Fair Grounds Racecourse, Hazel Park, Hoosier Park, Indiana Grand, Lone Star Park, and Louisiana Downs.
Ellis Starr, a.k.a. “Ubercapper,” has been a racing fan for 50 years and understands all aspects of handicapping as well as betting. More than 25 years ago, Ellis was one of the first handicappers to publish his selections on the Internet and to share his knowledge on a daily basis. Ellis is the National Racing Analyst for Equibase, the Thoroughbred industry’s official source for Racing Information, writing a widely distributed “Race of the Week” story analyzing top races in North America, which also appears on the website America’s Best Racing. Ellis also publishes insights, analysis and selections for other races around the country as blogs and as a podcast which may be found at Amwager and Keeneland Select, as well as via Twitter @ubercapper and on the websites of top racetracks such as Del Mar, Ellis Park, Keeneland, Santa Anita and Woodbine.
Ellis also participates in handicapping tournaments, winning the Belmont Shootout a few years back and the National Handicapping Championship Charity Challenge in 2017. He is among the few that participate annually in the Keeneland Tournament of Champions.
