Evansville Press Sports Editor Dick Anderson reported on August 11, 1954, that Dade Park owner James C. Ellis would officially rename the track after its 31st meeting. On September 7, the park would become James C. Ellis Park, honoring the Kentucky gentleman who purchased the property at a receiver’s sale a generation earlier.

A key change is the updated Ellis Park logo, now moving away from black and red to reflect its legacy – over a century of stories that hold a special place in our hearts. Owensboro will inherit the classic black logo as a symbol of Ellis Park passing the torch. With luxurious interiors, state-of-the-art games and more, it is set to become a premier gaming destination.
