Stage Ready was returning from nearly eight months off when racing in a mile and one-sixteenth turf race 17 days ago at Indiana Grand, not an easy feat without a prep. Yet he wasn’t disgraced a bit as he rallied from sixth to third, just a nose from the runner-up and a length from the winner. He broke his maiden last summer o the Ellis Park turf and he’s very well bred for this nine furlong trip, which he finished second at last fall at Churchill Downs. He’s very likely to improve second off the layoff and could easily run back to his maiden score over this course
Freedom’s Flight took blinkers off after nine race in them and earned his first win last month, a big effort rallying from sixth early and eight lengths back. Geroux riding for the first time may have also been the key to go along with the equipment change to get the job done. The colt fits perfectly at this non-winners of 2 allowance level and should be closing strongly let into the picture.
