The 4-year-old filly Into Mystic made her first start on grass when a close fourth in Santa Anita’s Grade 2 Monrovia Stakes on May 25. She makes her first start since then and first in the barn of trainer Brendan Walsh in Sunday’s $100,000 Kentucky Downs Preview Ladies Sprint. Into Mystic is the 7-2 second choice behind multiple graded-stakes winner Morticia, a 3-1 shot in the morning line.

Walsh said owners G. Chris Coleman and Brad E. King wanted to send her East, where she started her career as a 2-year-old.

“Nice to have her,” he said. “She looks like a pretty nice filly on her form and her works, too. She’s doing well, so I’m looking forward to running her.”

Into Mystic had an unusual prep for the Monrovia, winning a Los Alamitos allowance race by five lengths at 870 yards in a mixed-breed race against quarter horses. She then was very competitive in the Monrovia, whose 1-2 finishers were the talented multiple graded-stakes winners Jolie Olimpica and Oleksandra.

Walsh said he hopes Sunday’s race catapult’s Into Mystic into the $500,000, Grade 3 Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint on Sept. 12.

“Absolutely,” he said. “We’re learning about her, too. We’ll see how she runs. But I’m sure if she’d run well that will definitely be on the possible list.”
