It may not look like Tut’s Revenge runs better on dirt than on turf, the latter the surface for 10 of his last 12
races, and it may not look like he prefers sprinting over longer races, as just two of his last 12 have been under
a mile. Neither is true, because he has a 5-3-2 record in 17 starts on dirt and ran well in short races early in his
career as well as finished third in a 100K stakes on the grass in January when a bit short of 100% fit following
three months off. He’s run in 11 stakes races just like this one in his career, finishing first or second in six of
those, and he’s earned $443K to date. Leading jockey Corrales gets on and the gelding’s last dirt try, one
before last on May 25 in a stakes at Canterbury Park (in Minnesota) resulted in an easy two length win and a
110 Equibase speed figure which is as good as the same 110 figure Bango earned winning the Aristides
Stakes at Churchill Downs in June. Therefore Tut’s Revenge appears to be the one to beat in this race.
Kneedeepinsnow and Bango finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Kelly’s Landing Stakes three
weeks ago, behind last year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Aloha West, so they weren’t disgraced one bit.
Kneedeepinsnow has excellent early speed and the three horses drawn inside don’t have any so it’s likely he
will go to the lead from the start and play “come catch me” while Bango, who won the Good Lord Stakes 53
weeks ago here at Ellis Park, could earn his 10 th career win if he repeats that effort or his Aristides effort in
June, that is “IF” Tut’s Revenge doesn’t run big as expected.
